Biography of Paul Blackthorne

Paul Blackthorne is a British actor in film, television, and radio. He was born on March 5, 1969, in Wellington, Shropshire, England. Blackthorne quickly began his career by appearing in English commercials. He gained fame from a commercial for the airline company "Virgin Atlantic," which became very popular. This led to numerous offers for roles in commercials, primarily on radio.

Early Career

Blackthorne made his first appearance on the big screen playing Captain Andrew Russell in the Academy Award-nominated Hollywood film "Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India." In order to prepare for this role, Blackthorne spent six months learning Hindi. Shortly after completing the film's production in Gujarat, India, the town was devastated by an earthquake, almost completely leveling it. The building where the film's actors were staying during the shoot was also destroyed. To raise money for earthquake relief, Blackthorne organized a photo exhibition in London featuring his own work.

Career Highlights

Blackthorne has also appeared in the short film "Mindcrime" (2003) and the Indian feature film "Four Corners of Suburbia" (2005). The latter film won the "Best Narrative" award at the Crossroads Film Festival in 2006 and the "Best Composer" award at the Avignon Film Festival in France. He starred in Brett Easton Ellis' film "This Is Not an Exit: The Fictional World of Bret Easton Ellis" and played the lead role in the British film "The Truth Game." Blackthorne's last significant role was as Jonas Exiler in the film "Special" (2006) alongside Michael Rapaport.

Television Career

In 2002, Blackthorne portrayed British doctor Matt Slingerland in the American series "Presidio Med." He also played notable roles such as Guy Morton in the British series "Holby City," Liam McGregor in the series "Peak Practice," Dr. Jeremy Lawson in the NBC series "ER," and biological terrorist Stephen Saunders in the series "24." He has also made guest appearances in several other television shows.

In 2007, Blackthorne portrayed the wizard Harry Dresden in the series "The Dresden Files." He is also known for his talent as a photographer. An exhibition of his works, titled "Delhi-Manhattan," is currently being held at the Tibetan House in New York until June 19, 2009. The proceeds from the exhibition will be donated to help children in the Tibetan village of Dharamsala.
